Crossover frequency

I have an Onkyo TXNR807 receiver - Does Audyssey automatically set the crossover frequency or do I need to do that as part of the speaker setup.

    Chris,

Last night I ran Audyssey  on my Onkyo NR818 and Jamo D570 fronts and Energy XL-S8 sub. Audyssey set the Fronts to 150 center to 50 and rears to 120hz. My sub is set to 120.

My sub only has a frequency response 29hz to 100hz. Does that mean everything under 150 on my mains go to the sub. Am I missing something from 100 to 150hz. Should I set my mains to 80hz so that my sub picks up everything under and my mains 80 and above. A little worried that I am loosing between 80 and 150hz. Am I off base here. My center was set to 50hz

    Hi Bruce,

If the fronts were found to roll off at 150 Hz then everything below that will be sent to the sub.  Moving the crossover to a lower frequency will only help a little, because the speakers will still leave a hole in the response between them and the sub.  Perhaps if you moved the speakers (closer to the wall?) the blend would improve.

    Hi Chris,

sorry to go back to very basic questions.

After running the Auto Setup on my Denon AVR-1912 my front speakers are set to small, rollover freq. 40 hz.

As suggested I manually set the crossover freq. to 80 Hz to send all freq. below 80Hz to the sub.

However, by doing this, in the Audysssey Settings section I have only two options: OFF and Manual, while the "Audyssey" one is not available anymore (including other options like Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Vol.

Does it mean that I have to give up the crossover manual setup if I want to take advantage of the Audyssey functions??

I guess I'm missing something... Can you please enlighten me ?

    Thanks

    Domenico

    Hi Domenico,

This will happen if you made a change to the speakers.  For example if you had a speaker connected and then turned it off in the menu the calibration will be lost.  It will not happen if you just change the crossover.

    Hi Chris,

I restored the auto-setup settings and then changed only the crossover frequency and the Audyssey option in the menu is still there.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Domenico
